Central Scientific Committee
The Central Scientific Committee (http://www.caicsc.it) promotes knowledge and understanding of the natural and human aspects of mountain environments, especially in Italy. To this end it disseminates information and updates, also by setting up scientific and local commissions and promoting research.
The Scientific Committee’s three main aims are to provide information, training and research.
They provide information by publishing short notes and notices in the official CAI press and above all by publishing specific papers on various subjects, produced and coordinated by the Regional Commissions.
They provide training with the help of a large group of experts and nature guides working in the local branches. These are appointed via special national courses. In addition, every year a refresher seminar is held on a specific subject: seminars have been organized on botany, geology, Karst, glaciology, archaeology and Alpine architecture.
Research is done voluntarily by members of the Scientific Committee, who collect and process data on subjects such as glacier and high altitude hydro-geological incident monitoring, identifying the effects of human intervention in the context of traditional mountain activities.
